Make the most of your gardening experience! Have fun! Directions courtesy of Harper T.
- Step 1: Choose a good location (many plants need around 5 hours of sun each day and you'll need access to water).
- Step 2: Create a vision (patio garden with containers, raised beds, etc) based on your space.
- Step 3: Construct your raised beds or gather containers. You could also plant directly in the soil.
- Step 4: Invest in basic garden tools (watering can, shovel, etc).
- Step 5: Ensure that you have good soil composition (mix of sand, clay, and loam to ensure enough nutrience).
- Step 6: Decide what you want to plant! Be sure to consider sunlight, hardiness zones, and space (for example squash requires lots of space and tomatoes need plenty of sunlight).
- Step 7: Research frost dates for your area so you don't plan too early and come up with a planting schedule.
- Step 8: Plant! Start after the last frost and the timing will depend on the plant (either from seeds or transplants).
- Step 9: Care for your plants, by weeding, watering, keeping away pests, and making sure there are enough nutrients.
